I generally consider myself pretty smart, technologically speaking, and usually don't have a problem exploring and learning new things. But, for some reason RSS technology always scared me. It seems a bit silly now that I know how simple it really is. But, in the past whenever my husband talked about anything remotely related to RSS feeds my eyes would glaze over and I'd tune out completely.
Once I actually watched the tutorial I couldn't believe how easy it really was to get started. Over the last several days, I've really enjoyed tuning into one place and finding only information that interests me and none of the other stuff I normally sifted through to find the gems. Plus, I'm glad to know that I now have a place to funnel all the cool things that I learn about and then promptly forget. Now I can subscribe to something of interest and look at it when I have time without having to mentally keep it on my to-do list. And, if I don't get to it, oh well! There'll be more to look at later...
This kind of thing would be very helpful for programming reminders and other periodic messages. It would be a way to send out the information in our newsletters without having the entire issue all at once. And, people could customize their library news a bit by choosing to request information geared to specific populations.
